Alterscape is a collective dedicated to education through digital art media. We design and engineer experiential programmes using interactive virtual reality play-throughs that emulate neurological conditions.
As a group, our specialities lie in VR design, motion graphics, 3D imagery and storytelling. By marrying neurology, art and technology, our simulations take the viewer on an odyssey exploring the unique functions of the human body.
My main artistic contribution was the Cinema 4D animations displayed on the Alterscape website and the spatial/concept designs for the main VR project entitled Demystifying Epilepsy.
The final simulated 3D environments, which were later made in Unity, were built by VR designers Suki Law and Cristina Rosique, who both undoubtedly strengthened the narrative of this project.

When the distinction between reality and the virtual world blurs, these players find themselves engulfed by the seizure as it takes control of their body.
In a room of 100 people, 1 of those people are likely to have epilepsy. With over 60 million people affected by it worldwide, and 600,000 people in the UK, this is to a level that scales just as highly as the level of autism. And yet no one knows much about it. Epilepsy is an invisible illness which strikes at any moment, and when that happens often no one knows how to properly respond.
Visualising Epilepsy is a performance piece that I directed and edited which inspired Alterscape Collective. Its aim was to spread awareness through showing other’s what epilepsy can feel like. The outcome is a terrifying yet imaginative portrayal of how a seizure is visualised on the body...
